Symbol of the Week:
Today’s symbol is something that many of you might recognize - the 10 Commandment tablets. The 10 Commandments are laws that God gave us to help us become closer to him.
Overview of Today's Lesson:
Our focus this Lent is the promise that exists between God and us. One of the most important ideas of “promise” that we are covering is the idea that there are two parts to a promise. There is someone making a promise and someone is accepting it. Another word for promise that is used often in the Old Testament is “covenant”. In Exodus today, we hear about the story of Moses receiving the Ten Commandments. The Ten Commandments – the laws God asks us to live by – are a promise to us. If we follow these laws, we will go to heaven. This is the promise that we enter into with God at Baptism. In John, we hear about Jesus entering the temple and becoming angry with the merchants who are buying and selling. These merchants were well within the law as they understood it – BUT clearly violated the spirit of the laws that God asked them to follow. In later Scripture readings, Jesus clarifies God’s laws of love for us.
*Evaluate your Lenten experience. Are you celebrating it as a family or has time gotten away from you? It’s okay to begin this week to talk about Lent as a season and make decisions about what you want to do together.
The Kids' Bulletin - Good Intro (PRINT)
The back page of this kids bulletin (linked below) is also a great introduction to the lesson each week.
Print this 4-page bulletin (double-sided) for each child. Each week there's a summary of the lesson, two activities and a comic about a Saint. To print, click the link and select download (You can also view it full screen). Save these in a folder to look back on as the week's go on.
This is also a great thing to read at the beginning as an introduction as you color the symbol of the week.
For the younger kids, print out a coloring page from Holy Heroes (Find later in the email)

Catholic Kids Video (SET UP)
Illustrated Introduction Video to today's liturgy.
Watch it at the beginning of your lesson after introducing today's topic.
Watch it a few times if you need to!
Just a note: Sometimes the Homily at the end of these videos does not end up exactly like the discussion for the rest of the lesson, but it's still a great kid-minded homily and usually can be worked in to the overall lesson.

Prayer, Discussion and Activity (PRINT AND SET UP)
Adorers of the Blood of Christ offers a great (and short) lesson plan for a Children's Liturgy. Scroll past the readings to find the plan that begins with a prayer, and ends with a discussion and small activity. Print it out beforehand and gather materials for the activity if necessary.
